Ayurveda is an alternative medicine mainly in India brought by Dhanvantari, god of Ayurveda, taught medicine to a group of physicians in India. Ayurveda therapies in India have varied and evolved over more than two millennia. Ayurveda treatment in India are based on complex herbal compounds, minerals and metal substances, surgical techniques including rhinoplasty, kidney stone extractions, sutures, and the extraction of foreign objects.

Ayurveda treatises describe three elemental doṣas viz. vāta, pitta and kapha, and state that balance (Skt. sāmyatva) of the doṣas results in health, while imbalance (viṣamatva) results in disease. Ayurveda treatises divide medicine into eight canonical components. Ayurveda practitioners had developed various medicinal preparations and surgical procedures from at least the beginning of the common era

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (abbreviated as AYUSH) is developing education, research and alternative medicine systems in India for domestic & International patients. India is becoming hub for AYUSH possibilities and a separate ministry headed by Minister of State (Independent Charge) by Honble minister Shri Shripad Yesso Naik.
